He served as an Independent Director of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., from 1998 to June 2, 2006 and as its Presiding Director until June 2, 2006. From October 1993 to May 1999, he served as a Presidential appointee to the Board of Directors of Fannie Mae. He received a B.A. degree in Political Science from Purdue University and a J.D. degree from Indiana University School of Law.
