Mr. Jose H. Villarreal serves as an Advisor and Consultant of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. Mr. Villarreal was Partner at the law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP from July 1994 to January 2009. Prior to joining Akin Gump, he served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Public Finance Division of the Texas Attorney General's office. In 2000, Mr. Villarreal served as National Treasurer of the Gore-Lieberman presidential campaign. Mr.Villarreal has served in senior roles in presidential campaigns, as co-chair of the Kerry-Edwards Campaign and in 1992 as deputy campaign manager of the Clinton-Gore Campaign. Mr. Villarreal serves as Chairman at New America Alliance. He served as the Chairman of the board of the National Council of La Raza and Vice-Chairman of the board of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. Mr. Villarreal has been a Director of Union Pacific Corp. since January 1, 2009. He has been a Director of PMI Group Inc., since May 19, 2005. He serves as Director of Teach For America, Inc. Mr. Villarreal serves on the board of directors of Center for American Progress and also the Close-Up Foundation, one of the nations leading civic education organizations. Mr. Villarreal served as a Director of First Solar, Inc. from September 24, 2007 to May 23, 2012. He served as an Independent Director of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., from 1998 to June 2, 2006 and as its Presiding Director until June 2, 2006. From October 1993 to May 1999, he served as a Presidential appointee to the Board of Directors of Fannie Mae. He received a B.A. degree in Political Science from Purdue University and a J.D. degree from Indiana University School of Law.
