Raza Development Fund
Mr. Vela is the Chief Financial Officer for Raza Development Fund, the largest Latino Community Development Financial Institution in the country with over $250 million of assets under management. He is responsible for directing all financial, accounting, and treasury activities of the organization, participating with the executive team in the development of the organization’s strategic plan. In his capacity as CFO, he facilitated the negotiation and execution of nearly $200 million in new credit facilities. Prior to becoming CFO in October 2012, Mr. Vela served as Director of Finance and underwriter for the Education and Childcare Finance practice at RDF, where he advised both private and public schools on their facilities financing needs and overall performance. Before joining RDF in 2011, Mr. Vela worked in both Finance and General Management capacities for Latino oriented companies in Southern California, including Tequila Holdings and Bonanza Foods, where he worked in strategic planning, system implementation and controls, financial analysis, private placements, and capital raising. He is the Treasurer for the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders and President of its Phoenix chapter, and served in the Board of Directors of the Right to Life League of Southern California. Mr. Vela holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Monterrey Institute of Technology and a Master in Business Administration from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
