The NAA 2014 National Tour serves as our primary membership and market outreach effort. The Tour spans eight states - Texas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, California, Illinois, and Washington, DC.

We host Member Only round table meetings with elected officials, pension funds and other institutions we seek as collaborators in addressing the NAA mission across our pillars. These regional visits also include Membership Receptions with high-profile guests from NAA's political, economic and human capital networks. Our 2013 National Tour included member-only visits with 35 institutions across 8 states and 12 cities.

As we prepare for our final 2014 National Tour visit in Chicago, IL on May 1, we wanted to share a few highlights from our stops in Texas, DC, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, and California.
Our National Tour serves as our primary membership and market outreach effort spanning six states, Washington, DC and Puerto Rico. We host member-only roundtable meetings with elected officials, pension funds, and other institutions to identify ways to collaborate in promoting Latino leadership across sectors.


NAA KICKS OFF NATIONAL TOUR IN TEXAS February 19-21

Our NAA National Tour kicked off in the Lone Star State. We launched our tour with an NAA member dinner with Texas Senate Hispanic Caucus Chair Carlos Uresti, Texas Senator Leticia Van de Putte, Texas Representative Eddie Lucio III, as well as other special guests and NAA members.

As part of our tour, we met with the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS), the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), San Antonio Fire & Police Pension Fund, and with members of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus. ERS and TRS are two of the largest pension funds in the State of Texas, TRS is one of the largest in the nation with a total assets under management of $120 billion. Investors such as TRS and ERS, whom engage diverse asset management firms, are observing a trend of attractive returns and are expanding their investment programs, taking advantage of capital inefficiencies in the market and the proliferation of growing diverse firms serving this space.

We concluded our Texas visit with the National Tour Reception in San Antonio. NAA Chair of the Board Frank Herrera, NAA Co-Founder Henry Cisneros, and The Honorable Julián Castro, Mayor, San Antonio, TX opened the evening with remarks and the announcement of our 2nd Biennial American Latino National Summit in San Antonio, August 5-6.

NAA ROAD WARRIORS TOUR TO NORTHEAST March 3-7

NAA weathered the winter storm in the Northeast and made the march to Capitol Hill for meetings with the Office of Senator Robert Menendez, D-NJ; Congressman Xavier Becerra, D-CA; Congressman Bill Flores, R-TX; Congressman Greg Walden, R-OR; and the Office of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. We concluded the evening by attending the 28th Annual NCLR Capital Awards. As part of our DC meetings, we discussed the use of immigration as an economic engine, the federal pension system's lack of diversity in the management of assets, and the promotion of Latinos in leadership positions.

The next morning NAA met with Maryland State Retirement and Pension System Chief Investment Officer Dr. A. Melissa Moye, Ph.D and her investment team in Baltimore. Later that afternoon NAA had meetings with the New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer and his investment team followed by a meeting with New York City Pension Trustees and the NAA National Tour Reception Co-Hosted by New York Life.

NAA TOUR HEADS TO WEST COAST April 1-3

NAA held its third National Tour visit in California beginning with the CalPERS Emerging Manager Conference in Sacramento followed by a meeting with California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS), a roundtable and reception with Assemblymember Luis Alejo, Latino Legislative Caucus Vice Chair, Assemblymember Jose Medina, and Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer. Before leaving Sacramento NAA met with the California State Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), with Assets Under Management of over $277.2 Billion, CalSTRS AUM is approximately $182.7 Billion; these systems are among the largest pension funds in the world and are currently expanding their diverse manager programs.

In Pasadena, NAA met with the Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA) then in Los Angeles we met with the Los Angeles City Employees' Retirement System (LACERS) and Los Angeles Fire and Police Pension (LAFPP) Chief Investment Officer Tom Lopez. NAA closed the evening with our National Tour Reception at The California Club Co-Hosted by JPMorgan Chase, and the following morning we held our final meeting in California with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP).
